Walk-In Shower Cost in Dubai: What Is Included

Bathroom: black tap and a dark stone basin

A walk-in shower in Dubai is not priced as a single product. It is a small renovation inside your bathroom: removing the tub or old cubicle, reworking the drain, waterproofing, tiling, glass and fittings. As a rough guide in 2026, typical ranges quoted in Dubai put a complete bathroom renovation at AED 10,000–30,000 for a small bathroom and AED 30,000–70,000 for a medium one. Premium finishes can reach AED 70,000–150,000+.

Where you land depends mostly on whether the drain and pipes move, how much tile you use, and what the glass and fittings look like. Below we break down what is inside the price, so you can compare quotes line by line.

What a walk-in shower price should include

A walk-in shower means a floor-level or low-threshold tray, a fixed glass panel instead of a hinged door, and a fully tiled enclosure. Because there is no door or curb to stop water, the waterproofing and the floor slope matter more than in an ordinary cubicle. A proper quote lists these items separately:

  • Demolition of the old bath or cubicle, tile removal and waste disposal.
  • Plumbing: drain position, linear or point drain, mixer and shower valve, rough-in pipework.
  • Screed with a slope to the drain.
  • Waterproofing of floor and walls, then a flood test.
  • Tiles (material priced per sq m) and the labour to lay them.
  • Glass panel, hardware and silicone.
  • Shower set, mixer, accessories, niche or bench if planned.
  • Ventilation and lighting in the shower zone.

If a quote shows one line called "shower", ask for it to be split. It is the only way to see what you are paying for. We write the quote itemised, and the price and timeline are fixed in the contract.

Typical price ranges in Dubai in 2026

Published market figures cover the whole bathroom rather than the shower alone, and they differ between sources. Treat them as a frame for your budget, not as a quote. For the full picture of what sits inside a bathroom budget, see our bathroom renovation cost guide.

The deposit figures conflict between sources because every building sets its own. Ask your building management for the actual amount.

Three typical cases

Bath swapped for a walk-in shower

The most common job in Dubai apartments. The tub comes out, the drain is moved or reused, and the wet zone is waterproofed and retiled. Cost sits within the small-to-medium bathroom ranges above, driven by tile and glass.

Existing shower cubicle upgraded

The drain stays, so plumbing work is lighter. You pay mainly for waterproofing, tiling, glass and fittings. Usually the lowest-cost route, provided the old waterproofing is not failing.

Full bathroom rebuilt around a walk-in

New layout, new drain line, bespoke vanity, stone or large-format tile and frameless glass. This moves into the medium and high-end ranges, and often needs building approval for the plumbing change.

What pushes the price up or down

Four things decide most of the difference between two quotes:

  • Moving the drain. Reusing the existing position is cheaper. Relocating it means breaking the floor and re-running waste pipes, and in apartments it can require approval from the building.
  • Tile choice. Porcelain is the usual choice for wet areas in a hot, humid climate because it absorbs very little water. Large formats and marble cost more to supply and lay. See porcelain vs ceramic tiles.
  • Glass. Frameless, thicker or custom-cut panels cost more than standard ones. Size and design are covered in walk-in shower design.
  • Waterproofing method. Cutting it is the false saving. Read bathroom waterproofing cost before you trim this line.

A walk-in shower has no door or curb to hold water back, so the waterproofing and the floor slope do the work. Do not accept a quote that skips either, and insist on a flood test before any tile goes down. A leak into the apartment below is far more expensive than the shower itself.

How the work goes

  1. Survey We visit, measure, photograph, and discuss the brief and budget with you.
  2. Itemised quote and design You see the layout and, if you want, a visualisation of the finished room before work starts.
  3. Building approval We prepare and submit the documents for the building NOC, where needed, before noisy work begins.
  4. Demolition and plumbing Old finishes come out, drain and pipes are set, and hidden works are photographed before they are covered.
  5. Waterproofing and flood test The wet zone is sealed and flood-tested for 24 hours before tiling.
  6. Tiling, glass and handover Tiles are laid to a laser level with the layout planned in advance, then glass and fittings are fitted, and we hand over against a checklist.

Approvals, time and VAT

Plumbing reconfiguration in a wet area is among the works that typically need permission. In Dubai apartments the building's facility manager or owners' association approves the work first. A developer or OA NOC typically takes about 7–14 days, so plan it before the start date. More in our NOC and permit guide and in renovation permit fees.

On site, a single bathroom typically takes 2–4 weeks. Our article on how long a bathroom renovation takes shows what stretches it. Remember that VAT at 5% is added to contractor invoices, so check whether a quote is shown with or without it. If you rent, you need the landlord's written approval first.

Budget a walk-in shower as part of a bathroom, not as an add-on. Decide first whether the drain moves, then pick tile and glass, and ask for an itemised quote with waterproofing and the flood test written in. Compare quotes line by line, not by the total. Our bathroom renovation service and the pricing page explain how we structure it.

FAQ

How much does a walk-in shower cost in Dubai?

As a rough guide in 2026, a small bathroom renovation including a walk-in shower is typically quoted at AED 10,000–30,000, and a medium one at AED 30,000–70,000. Premium finishes can go above AED 70,000. The final figure depends on drain position, tile, glass and fittings.

Can I convert a bath to a walk-in shower in a Dubai apartment?

Usually yes. Moving the drain or changing plumbing in a wet area typically needs approval from your building or owners' association before work starts. We prepare and submit the NOC documents for you.

Is waterproofing included in a walk-in shower price?

It should be, and it should be a separate line in the quote. We waterproof wet areas and flood-test them for 24 hours before any tile goes down. If a quote does not mention it, ask.

How long does it take to build a walk-in shower?

A single bathroom typically takes about 2–4 weeks on site, plus time for the building NOC, which is commonly around 7–14 days. Imported tile or custom glass can add waiting time, so order early.
